From June 2, RTA Dubai Will Require Appointments for Vehicle Testing

Starting on June 2, 2025, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will introduce online appointment scheduling for vehicle inspections at all testing facilities, aiming to improve service efficiency and reduce road congestion in Dubai. The new system is accessible here and can also be accessed through RTA Dubai’s mobile app. RTA Dubai mobile app or www.rta.ae.

It is now necessary to schedule an appointment.

Appointment Requirements

As of June 2, drivers must schedule appointments in advance to have their vehicles tested at Dubai’s 27 technical inspection centers. Customers can still visit the Tasjeel Hatta branch without a reservation, which is an exception to the rule.

At eight of these sites, inspections will only be conducted by appointment; walk-ins will never be permitted. At 19 of these centers, walk-in visitors may receive inspection services at no additional cost if available.

Appointment-Only Locations

These eight places consist of the following:

  • Wasel Vehicle Testing Centers: Nad Al Hamar and Arabian Center
  • Shamil Centers: Nad Al Hamar, Al Adid, and Al Muhaisnah
  • Center Al Mumayaz: Al Mizhar
  • Tasjeel Centers: Al Mankhool and Al Twar

Simplifying Vehicle Testing: An Advancement in Digital Technology

Based on RTA data, this policy extension is the outcome of a six-month pilot program initiated at the Al Qusais and Al Barsha Tasjeel centers in October 2024. According to their data, RTA reported a 46% average reduction in wait times and a 15% decrease in physically processed transactions without sacrificing revenue. Additionally, vehicle testing at these locations decreased by 13%, but more than half of customers were satisfied with the results and made reservations in advance.

Improving Resource Allocation and User Experience

RTA’s Director of Vehicle Licensing, Qais Mohammad Al Farsi, emphasized the improvements in operational efficiency and user satisfaction through the pilot. “This system facilitates more effective resource allocation, reduces service delays, and greatly enhances customer convenience,” he said.

Al Farsi emphasized how an online appointment system will help locations with over 80% utilization better manage capacity and cut inspection delays by 40%.

Excuses That Encourage Inclusivity

Some drivers are excluded from the new book-in-person requirement: elderly residents, those with disabilities, and citizens whose cars are registered in Dubai are not required to make a reservation in advance. This exemption demonstrates the RTA’s commitment to providing its citizens with inclusive and easily accessible services.

Strategic Goals and Digital Innovation

The implementation of required appointments is a component of the RTA’s overarching strategy to optimize services and minimize customer wait times. The RTA aims to provide more reliable timetables and consistent scheduling. To maintain high operational standards and improve driver satisfaction, it also aims to reduce traffic congestion in crowded areas.

Dubai’s Smart City Plan, which aims to enhance accessibility, usability, and sustainability throughout the city, includes this initiative to integrate technology into routine services.

Dubai’s move to online bookings for vehicle inspections is a novel approach to modernizing the delivery of public services. It can result in significant efficiency, time savings, and an enhanced customer experience.

To ensure a prompt and effective car inspection experience, drivers should utilize the available internet resources. To avoid incurring Dh100 costs or lengthy wait times, make an appointment via the RTA Dubai App or at www.rta.ae in advance to get their vehicle checked off efficiently.
